They are great pencils but I knew of their quality already from using them in my Art class in High School....but that is the rub....I had an Art project due and they advertised that they would be here in 5 working days and they weren't! So I had to go out and purchase other pencils to get the project done on time...So now I have all sorts of colored pencils...

So basically...great pencils...but slow on the shipping part....

Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils 48 Count (24103598T84) I ordered this set as recommended by other artists who work with colored pencils. The colors and blending of colors are excellent. The lead is soft and creamy and gorgeous for filling, yet when sharpened, it is crisp and can be used for a variety of uses. I will no doubt by the largest set so that I can have all of the available colors at my finger tips. I will also buy the smallest 12 pencil set so that I can carry it with me. Colored pencil enthusiasts will love this and it is suitable for students, professionals, children and adults. Highly recommended.

After cleaning crayon out of the dryer and having ruined clothes for the umpteenth time, my wife banned crayons from the house. My son was disappointed, but that was the law. Then he saw a caricature artist use these. He had to have them! Well, I broke down and got him a set.

That was 2 years ago. They last forever! They've far outlasted brushes and paints and markers and colored pens and pencils. And the quality of the drawings is far superior to that of any crayon. You can blend and shade colors. The value is tremendous. For kids, don't get colored pencils -- they get sharpened down in no time flat.

I'm pretty sure these would be fine in a dryer, because when a couple broke I tried to melt them together again, without success. But the kids keep them out of their pockets and out of the laundry. Maybe it's because they come in a nice box or maybe it's because they do not have a wrapper. In any case, none have been lost, which seems like a small miracle.

Probably the best place to buy this would be at Michael's arts and crafts with a 50% off coupon.

I was sent a confirmation email that said my package had shipped out on Aug 19th. It was suppose to come no later than the 27th of Sept. On the 27th it was not received. First I contacted Fedex because a tracking number was issued out. They informed me that they were contacted to issue a shipping label but they not yet contacted to pick up the order and ship it. So then I contacted the seller through email which is the only way to contact them on the 27th at 2:43 pm and said "You forgot to call fedex and send for a pick-up. I told them I would like to rectify this error by shipping my order overnight. I am an freelance artist and wanted to use this medium for a project. I was on a deadline. I paid almost $8 in shipping. Well they email me back the next day and said they have already standard shipped it and it was sent out before they got my message. They said it was on back order this whole time. I looked at the Fed Ex tracking and wrote back "It is very convenient that I wrote my email before 3pm and this "backorder" was then sent out at 3:07. Don't you guys send out a notice when it is on back order? The fact that you had sent me a message that it was shipped, and fedex was written up a label on that day, tells me that somebody forgot to call for a pick-up." They emailed me back with "It is a coincidence that your order was shipped out the day you sent your complaint. Items are placed on back order if they are sold out in our retail store, before the inventory is updated online." I think they should of emailed me after they sent out a confirmed 'out for shipping email' to me that said "sorry this item is on back order We will contact you when it comes in". They did not send an On Back Order notification and then sent it to me with a shipping wait of Sept. 3rd! I said I was contacting Amazon to file a claim and refusing my order unless they at least give me free shipping. they did refund my shipping. The pencils came with long cracks in the wood and no two extra color sticks like they advertise. Not happy! I knew I should of bought something shipped through Amazon, which does a wonderful job with customer satisfaction. But No I went through Whole Sale Stuff. The price was 37.95 instead of the 75.99 and I guess I got what I paid for.

I own these pencils and I personally think they are great. I have the 72 color set and I think the creamy leads are excellent because they are soft and free of impurities that cheap colored pencils have. I have not had trouble with blooming or layering so far. I really like the fact that you can reorder specific colors through the Prismacolor website. Be sure to buy an appropriate pencil sharpener. The Prismacolor Colored Pencil sharpener is a good one but you can only sharpen one or two pencils before needing to clean it out. That is the only drawback I have found.

Draw an Apple- Illustration Technique with Markers and Color Pencils

This video shows my process for making an illustration (non tradigital). I use illustration markers (usually prismacolor) and color pencils (usually prisma once again) and a wax blending stick. I make my illustrations in two steps. Step 1- I observe my reference drawings or photos and try to see what lies beneath. There is no way to blend markers in the same way that one can blend paint (ironically even with a marker blender) so I lie down the base tones with markers (the first layer). Step 2- Is created with color pencils. Color pencils are mixable / blendable and I mix the color pencils directly above my marker drawing. I use the wax stick to finish the surface and tie everything together. - Merrill Kazanjian Achromatic- Black, white and greys. Artwork that is executed without color. Acrylic- Thicker and stronger than tempera or watercolor paint, Acrylic is a water-based "plastic" paint. Albumen Print- This printing process is used in photography printing processes. Egg whites are used in the emulsion. Alternative Process- This photography term covers approximately 35 different processes for the final unconventional effect. Armature- A structure used beneath something else for support. For example, a sculptor might create a clay sculpture with a wood or wire armature beneath it as support. He says pencils are easy to hold, easy to use, non smearing, and just plain lovely in color composition. Prismacolor Pencils do cost more than some other brands, but I believe they worth the extra cost.

When my wife and I first started taking art classes a few years back we bought another brand of pencils (I don't recall which one) and had marginal success in making our drawings "pop". We noticed that our teacher was using Prismacolor pencils and he let me try them. The difference was amazing, the ability to shade and blend was so much better.

These are high quality pencils that really do make a difference. Highly Recommended!

I have Prismacolor pencils. I don't have the larger set. I have the 72qty. I have been using these pencils for years. I love how well they blend. I also like how you can apply different layers to your drawings.(like when you're doing hair I use an average of 5 or 6 different colors just to make it look like natural hair.Then you have the variety and depth of the skin tones you can create. I use mulitple shades/colors and layer them to give nice undertones to the skin.
